Girl Unit‘s debut “IRL” was an instant underground anthem in London. The track’s syncopated 808/909 drumkit captures the manic energy of Chicago’s footwork movement at a UK-friendly 135bpm. While “IRL”‘s ominous monster island horns and sub-bass momentum references both Chicago and London in equal parts, the searing laser beam of a synth line that permeates the track launches it high into orbit.

On the flip, Scratcha DVA reinterpret “IRL” with his “Hi Emotions” remix. Piling on the pressure, DVA builds on the monstrous vibe of the original with on this grimey, syncopated riddim.

Finally, “Shade On” picks up where “IRL” left off with another synthed-out, juked-out excursion even further into space.
